On October 30, 2026, a Reddit user under the nickname Pore published a prediction: Google and other major labs will in the coming days release new local models (models that can be run on one's own hardware, without accessing a server) in order to top the benchmarks (standardized tests for comparing model quality) before the release of Qwen 4. The author calls this a "Copium Prediction" — from the word copium, an internet meme about self-soothing.

We saw this earlier when Gemma 4 dropped just a few days before a previous Qwen release. I feel like a few other labs did the same. Everybody wants that moment in the spotlight where they can lead the benchmarks for at least a day or two before the next Qwen comes in and mops the floor with them. I predict a new Gemma or maybe a Muse Glimmer update very soon before the Qwen 4 release.
